Welcome to The Royal Gurkha Rifles and the Brigade of Gurkhas
On 10 April 2026, Officer Cadets George Kazanas and Jack Spareym, completed their 44-week initial officer training course at the Royal Military Academy Training (RMAS), to become Second Lieutenants in The Royal Gurkha Rifles, British Army. The course completion and commissioning is marked by the Sovereign’s Parade on Old College Square, RMAS.
The Sovereign’s representative for this parade was General Dame Sharon Nesmith DCB ADC (Vice Chief of the Defence Staff).

After a short well earned leave period, they will move to the Infantry Battle School in Brecon, Mid-Wales and undertake the Platoon Commanders Battle Course.
This course focuses on producing tactically capable Platoon Commanders who are physically and mentally robust. Usually (though not exclusively) the Platoon Commanders’ Battle Course is completed immediately after commissioning from RMAS.
The course is broken down into two distinct phases – the Tactics phase and the Live Fire Tactical Training phase.
