This summer, The Gurkha Museum will mark the sixtieth anniversary of the end of the Borneo Confrontation with Borneo 60, a programme of talks, articles, commemorative events and public activities.
The campaign (1962–1966) was a defining chapter in Gurkha history, with soldiers serving in some of the world’s most challenging jungle conditions and playing a vital role in the conflict. At the heart of the commemorations is the Museum’s 2026 summer exhibition, Hot Jungle, Cold War, exploring the experiences of Gurkha soldiers through photographs, artefacts, documents and personal accounts. Visitors will discover the realities of jungle warfare, the wider Cold War context and the lasting legacy of Gurkha service, with interactive activities for families and younger audiences.
Together, Borneo60 and Hot Jungle, Cold War exhibition offer an opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of Gurkha soldiers while sharing their remarkable story with new generations.
