1st Signal Regiment’s commitment to high readiness is more than a slogan, it is a standard upheld every day. As part of the 4th Light Brigade Combat Team supporting Forward Land Forces (Estonia), the Regiment maintains a demanding readiness posture, remaining at 25 days’ notice to move. To support this requirement, 246 Gurkha Signal Squadron conducted an Individual Training Requirement (ITR) Week designed to consolidate core soldiering skills, validate mandatory competencies, and ensure all personnel remain green and operationally ready.
The week began with a navigational exercise delivered by Corporal Nabin Gurung during a squadron physical training session. The demanding route across varied terrain reinforced the importance of combining physical fitness with navigational competence.

This was followed by a day in the field led by Corporal Abhishek Rajbhandari and his team, focusing on refreshing essential soldiering skills. Training serials included battlefield casualty drills, camouflage and concealment, target indication, and section battle drills. The day concluded with a series of consecutive section attack scenarios, testing the clearance of enemy positions and casualty evacuation under pressure.

The following day, Lance Corporal Jensen delivered a theoretical lesson on chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defence, covering potential threats, protective measures, and immediate action drills. This learning was consolidated on the final day of the training package, at the Defence CBRN Centre, led by Corporal Mitchell. Personnel operated in a controlled environment simulating chemical exposure, allowing them to apply their knowledge under realistic conditions.

The ITR Week strengthened both individual proficiency and collective capability, directly supporting the Regiment’s high-readiness commitments. As a result, 246 Gurkha Signal Squadron remains fully trained, capable, and prepared to respond at short notice.
