Cateran Yomp 2026 – The Record Breaker

By Signaller Praveen Singh Rana – 250 Gurkha Signal Squadron

Held annually in Perthshire, Scotland, the Cateran Yomp is one of the UK’s toughest endurance challenges. Organised by the Army Benevolent Fund, it follows a gruelling 54-mile route across the Cateran Trail, with more than 2,200 metres of elevation gain to be completed within 24 hours.

This year, six teams from 30 Signal Regiment took part. I represented 250 Gurkha Signal Squadron in the Juniors team, with each member preparing individually for nearly three months to build the stamina and resilience needed for the challenge.

We started strongly, but cramps, strains, and fatigue tested us as the miles passed. Teamwork and determination carried us through, and crossing the finish line together was unforgettable. Soon after, we learned we had not only won the event but also set a new course record.
