249 Gurkha Signal Squadron 5th Birthday Celebrations

249 Gurkha Signal Squadron celebrated its 5th birthday on the 29th of May 2024. This year’s celebration incorporated the inauguration of a new ‘Birthday Cup’ sport competition, alongside a parade and celebrations. The ‘Birthday Cup’ was an inter-troop sports competition which comprised of football and volleyball competition played over two days. The main aim of was to come together as the Squadron and celebrate our unit birthday in the presence of the Commanding Officer, key personalities of the Regiment and all Queen’s Gurkha Signals serving personnel in the Regiment.

All Squadron and guests assembled at Cambrai Garage on conclusion of the sport competition. A short speech was delivered by Captain Laxmanbabu Rana. He touched on the history of the Squadron, reflected on the growth since the reformation in 2019 and how the Squadron is playing a critical role supporting the Iron Division of the British Army.

Normandy Troop were awarded the overall champion of its 1st iteration of the ‘Birthday Cup’. The cake cutting ceremony then took place. This event was the perfect opportunity to congratulate and bid farewell to Captain Kishan Ale and Captain Prakash Chhantyal as they were presented with their Captain rank slides. An appetizing light lunch was served. In short, a thoroughly enjoyable event that bolster the Squadron morale and unity which in turn adversely improves the operational effectiveness of the unit.
