3 Star Commendation for Officer Commanding Gurkha Training Company

Major Gyan Dhenga, Officer Commanding Gurkha Training Company (GTC) Catterick, has been awarded a 3‑Star SJC Commendation in recognition of his exemplary service as Gurkha Major, British Gurkhas Nepal, his previous appointment.
Throughout his tenure, he consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment, and outstanding service in support of the Brigade of Gurkhas and the United Kingdom’s enduring partnership with Nepal. His tireless efforts were instrumental in enabling Gurkha recruitment and delivering essential welfare support to serving personnel, veterans, and families, while fostering trusted relationships with key Nepalese government and community stakeholders.
Following the devastating 2023 earthquake, Major Dhenga displayed remarkable initiative and resolve by bringing together military units, charitable organisations, and local authorities to establish a vital birthing facility in Jajarkot, one of the worst‑affected and most remote regions. His leadership directly addressed a critical gap in maternal healthcare, providing lifesaving support to vulnerable women and significantly improving outcomes for mothers and newborns in an underserved community.
