On the occasion of the 76th birthday of the Queen’s Gurkha Engineers (QGE), a vibrant sports day was organised by Lance Corporal Bhupal Rai from 67 Gurkha Field Squadron. The event featured the Kali Prased Shield, an inter-rank 9-A-Side football tournament, along with Chhelo and Tug of War competitions. This annual gathering is steeped in history, highlighting the close ties between the QGE and the Nepalese Army Engineer Battalion.
The Kali Prasad Shield was originally presented by Lieutenant Colonel Pratap Sing Malla, a prominent figure within the Nepalese Army, this shield serves not only as a trophy but also a symbol of excellent ties between the QGE and the Nepal Army Engineer Kali Prasad Battalion. Unfortunately, the original Kaliprasad Shield was lost and under the guidance of Major Govindabahadur Rana (previous Gurkha Major QGE), a replica shield was re-designed and presented this year.
Teams battled it out with great enthusiasm, in a thrilling football final between the Junior Non-Commission Officers (JNCO) and the Sappers. In a display of strategic play and determination, the JNCOs emerged victorious. In the tug of war event, Officers/Senior Non-Commission Officers demonstrated their strength and coordination, clinching the win with formidable teamwork. The Chhelo contest was won by Sapper Rohit Tamang, adding to the day’s excitement.
