In December 2026, four Gurkhas from The Queen’s Gurkha Engineers (QGE) will row unsupported across the Atlantic in the World’s Toughest Row. Racing as The Salty Sappers, the team will raise funds and awareness for the Royal Engineers Association and the Gurkha Welfare Trust and become the first Nepali citizens ever to row an ocean.

The 3,000‑mile race runs from La Gomera, Canary Islands, to Antigua, with crews rowing non‑stop for around 40 days on a relentless 2‑hours-on, 2‑hours-off routine. The team will face extreme weather, high seas, exhaustion and the full force of the Atlantic.

Sponsorship Opportunities

Rowing an ocean is an expensive undertaking, with project costs of around £100,000. Thanks to existing grant funding and ownership of the boat, this figure is already significantly reduced, but the team still relies on the generous support of sponsors to complete the mission.
