Colonel Brigade of Gurkhas Dashain Message 2026
On the occasion of Bijaya Dashami 2083, my family and I would like to offer our most heartfelt wishes to the Brigade of Gurkhas, serving and retired, families and friends. We hope that you are all able to find the time, wherever you are, to come together with comrades and loved ones to celebrate. May this most auspicious festival of Dashain bring you peace, happiness and prosperity; strengthen our unity, our belonging and continue to inspire success in all we take on. The message of Dashain is also one of new beginnings, renewal and resilience in the face of challenges; this should bring us strength in hard times.
I personally would like to take this opportunity to honour our families. We are held up and carried forward by those who stand beside us, enabling us to do what we do. Those who provide us the strength and support we need as well as being our reason why. Thank you.
Of course, this year we must also reflect on the heart-breaking loss of life and hardship imposed by natural disasters in Nepal. The Dashain message of resilience is so relevant but we should also hope that internationally we can strive for new beginnings in the face to the challenge of climate change. We will all be hoping, praying and working to ensure that the people of Nepal are able to come through this awful event able to push for a brighter future.
Wherever we have been this year we have continued to leave a legacy of outstanding achievement. Our units and our people have shone on operations, exercises large and small, in military skills competitions and in the sporting arena. We as a Brigade continue to grow, not just in size but in the breadth of the capabilities we offer to the Army and the United Kingdom. This growth continues to bring new opportunities for our people to prove they have the skills, adaptability and tenacity to succeed in the face of the ever changing character of war. The demands of longer ranges, faster decision making, a transparent battlefield and an attendant need for the very best people able to adapt at speed are all demands that we are uniquely placed to meet. I have every confidence that we shall continue to set standards across the Army wherever we find ourselves.
So, I thank you all for an outstanding year of service, effort and dedication. I thank you for how well you have looked after each other; be you serving or retired, in uniform or supporting someone in uniform. Across the world, from the Falklands to the UK, Nepal to Brunei and all parts in between I hope that this Dashain brings you strength, lasting health and love. Be unfailingly proud of who you are and where you have come from.
Jai Brigade of Gurkhas!
Colonel Brigade of Gurkhas
