Gurkha Allied Rapid Reaction Corps Support Battalion brought together personnel from multiple trades for Exercise GROUND ZERO, from 19–23 January 2026, on the Sennybridge Training Area in Wales. Led by 14 Squadron, Close Support Troop, the exercise focused on standardising core soldiering skills and sharpening the battalion’s collective operational readiness.
Training opened with a series of fieldcraft stands covering camouflage and concealment, judging distance, why objects are seen, handling of captured persons, and other essential soldiering competencies. These sessions reinforced the battalion’s survivability and effectiveness in the field.
Personnel then undertook day and night navigation assessments, ensuring confidence in operating without reliance on digital aids. This was followed by practical training in troops in contact drills and defensive operations, including sangar construction and the establishment of protective fencing. These activities tested teamwork, leadership, and discipline under pressure.
Exercise GROUND ZERO proved highly successful, enhancing fieldcraft, navigation, defensive drills, and combat skills across the battalion.
