Exercise SUPER GARUDA SHIELD (SGS) 24 took place in Indonesia, strengthening defence ties between the UK, US, Australia, Japan, Indonesia and other allied forces. The aim of the multinational exercise was to exchange combat knowledge and foster deeper cooperation. We began our by flying direct from Brunei to Surabaya in East Java, from where we were escorted to the training area at Dodiklatpur Camp by the Indonesian Army military police.

The first phase involved a subject matter expert exchange (SMEE), where nations shared tactical skills across patrol tactics, survival, medical training, counter-UAS, CQB, call for fire, and judgmental training. Our team led the survival and medical stands, learning valuable lessons from our international counterparts, which enhanced our interoperability and mutual respect.

The second phase, a field training exercise, featured air mobility with CH-47 Chinook and Black Hawk helicopters, airlifting our platoon into enemy territory for a tactical air Land operation. Working alongside Australian, US, Japanese and Indonesian forces, we conducted coordinated assaults, highlighting the importance of communication and joint operations.

The exercise concluded with a combined arms live-fire exercise,, involving four days of planning and live-fire action. Supported by heavy weapons, our platoon advanced on enemy positions, demonstrating the effectiveness of integrated firepower.

A closing ceremony took place at Dodiklatpur Camp and marked the end of the exercise, where mementos and patches were exchanged, symbolising the bonds formed.

During our rest and recuperation, the platoon visited Mount Bromo, an active volcano and popular tourist destination. We returned to Brunei bringing home enhanced skills, stronger relationships, and a renewed sense of camaraderie with our allies
