40 British Army personnel are in East Java, Indonesia to take part in Exercise SUPER GARUDA SHIELD 24.
The bulk of the forces come from the First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles, the resident Infantry Battalion based in Brunei. 4 Platoon from B (Sari Bair) Company, led by Captain Sunil Gurung, are integrating in a mixed battlegroup of US, Indonesian, Australian, Japanese, Singaporean and Canadian troops. They have conducted both live and blank air assault exercises using US Blackhawk helicopters.
The multinational exercise aims to improve the ability to plan and conduct joint operations with partners from different nations. It also tests and improves interoperability by combining activity across maritime, land, air and cyber domains.
In a new addition to this year’s exercise, four personnel from 2 Signal Regiment in York are taking part in the multinational Cyber exercise.
