Gurkhas Parade in Brecon 7 June 2026
On 7 June 2026, the 41st annual Gurkha Brecon freedom parade took place in Brecon town centre. The event sees Gurkha Wing (Mandalay) exercise their right to the freedom of Brecon. Gurkha Wing (Mandalay) were supported by The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas.
The local community was out in great numbers to support the event and celebrate the Gurkha connection to the town.

The Gurkhas first began serving in Brecon in 1974, and on 12 December 1980, a dedicated unit was formally established as the Gurkha Demonstration Company (GDC). Since then, the Gurkhas have become an integral part of the community.
In November 1985, Brecon Town Council recognised this deep connection by granting Honorary Citizenship to the Company. The following May, the inaugural Brecon Freedom Parade was held.
