Gurkha Welfare Trust Visit to 250 Gurkha Signal Squadron
On 7 May 2026, 250 Gurkha Signal Squadron (250 GSS) hosted members of the Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT) during Exercise KHUKURI PARICHAYA 2 at Gamecock Barracks, Bramcote. Led by Corporal Laxman Rana, the visit recognised the GWT’s continued support to Gurkha veterans and families in Nepal and strengthened the Squadron’s enduring relationship with the Trust. The programme offered a concise, immersive introduction to military life.
The day opened with a basic‑level physical training session in the gymnasium, giving participants a firsthand appreciation of the physical demands and teamwork central to soldiering. Major David Cummings, Officer Commanding 250 GSS, then welcomed the visitors before presentations and facility visits outlined the Squadron’s role, leadership responsibilities, and regimental culture. A highlight was Lance Corporal Bishal Shrestha’s personal account of his journey from Nepal to Catterick, offering an inspiring insight into the determination required to become a British Army soldier.

Fieldcraft provided the most hands‑on element. Under Cpl Sandesh and Lance Corporal Roshan, GWT members practised constructing poncho shelters, preparing ration packs, and taking part in friendly competitions, including timed shelter building, camouflage tasks, and an observation stand.
The Dismounted Close Combat Trainer (DCCT) phase, led by Cpl Abhay, delivered a realistic introduction to weapon handling. Participants completed a structured shooting competition in full fighting order, mirroring annual military practice.
The visit concluded with a traditional Gurkha messing dinner, prize‑giving, and the presentation of a £4,914 charity cheque to the GWT—funds raised by OC 250 GSS and the Regimental Sergeant Major of RHQ QGS, who completed the London Marathon carrying a 15kg Doko in support of the Trust. It was a fitting end to a successful and meaningful engagement.
