Historic Moment for the Nepali Army at Sandhurst

On 18 July 2026, the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) marked the graduation of Commissioning Course Short (CCS) 262, celebrating 74 newly commissioned officers. Among them was Lieutenant (Lt) Tejus Jung Thapa, who made history as the first third‑generation Nepali Army officer to graduate from Sandhurst.

Lieutenant Thapa said he was honoured to follow the path set by his father and grandfather, calling them his greatest sources of inspiration. Both attended the ceremony, making the milestone even more meaningful.

His family’s connection to Sandhurst spans more than six decades. His paternal grandfather, Brigadier General Tejendra Jung Thapa (Retd), and maternal grandfather, the late Lieutenant Colonel Prabala SJB Rana, trained together at Sandhurst from 1960 to 1962. His father, Major General Anup Jung Thapa, completed his training there in 1991. Their journeys reflect the long‑standing bond between the Nepali Army and the British Army.

The family’s Sandhurst story is also marked by royal visits: King Mahendra and Queen Ratna attended Brigadier General Thapa’s graduation, while Queen Elizabeth II visited during Major General Thapa’s training.
