Intake 14 successfully organized the first IDO CUP 2024, a football competition in memory of the late Navin Thapa Magar. Intake 21A team secured the inaugural win, with the QGE Team as the runners-up.
The late Navin Thapa Magar was born in Jhaphutar, Tanahun District and enlisted in to the Brigade of Gurkhas in December 2013. He was serving with The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles, but unfortunately died due to tragic incident in Brunei Jungle. The Brigade and Intake 14 lost one of the most hard-working individuals.
This year the IDO CUP consisted of 16 teams from across The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles (2RGR), The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas and the Queens Gurkha Engineers, who competed to secure the win and have their team name engraved as the first winners of the IDO Cup. The opening ceremony started by lighting a candlein front of Navin Thapa Magar photograph by the Gurkha Major, Regimental Sergeant Major. This was followed by a short speech and two minutes silence was observed.
The activity also managed to raise £1414.14 for Khukuri Fund 2 RGR,. The IDO Cup 2024 was sponsored by various Nepalese community Restaurants, hotels and shops from across our extended community.
