Major Kiran Pun MVO joins the team in Kathmandu as the new Gurkha Major, British Gurkhas Nepal
Major Kiran Pun MVO was born in Brunei and was brought up in Pokhara, Nepal. He enlisted into the Brigade of Gurkhas on 26 February 1993. On completion of his basic training at the Training Depot Brigade of Gurkhas in Hong Kong, he joined the 10th Gurkha Rifles which became The Third Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles in Jul 1994. In August 1996, he joined The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles and completed his Junior Leadership Cadre in 1997.
During 32 years of service he has enjoyed a varied career, completing appointments at Regimental Duty, ERE and operational deployments. He deployed to Bosnia (1997, 2003 & 2005), Kosovo (1999 & 2003) and Afghanistan (2009 & 2013). He served overseas in Kenya, Norway, Canada, Falkland Islands, Germany and Brunei. His career highlights include Section Commander/ Instructor at Gurkha Company Catterick and as a Platoon Sergeant he completed tours to Kosovo and Bosnia. In 2005 he deployed on the European Union Force Althea mission in Bosnia as a CQMS and stepped up to become the Platoon Commander.

On promotion to Colour Sergeant in 2006, he served in the Battalion’s Training Wing where he had the opportunity to use his instructional ability and communication skills to great effect in preparing JNCOs for their career courses. He has experience working as a directing staff at the Infantry Battle School (IBS) in Brecon between December 2006 and August 2008. In 2009 he deployed as the CQMS on Operation HERRICK 10 with a Gurkha Reinforcement Company.
On return from Afghanistan, he was posted to the Infantry Training Centre Catterick to assume the post of Platoon Commander in the rank of Warrant Officer Class Two. In 2011, he was employed as CSM C Company and deployed on Operation HERRICK 17.
He then assumed the appointment of 1 Platoon Commander in A (Delhi) Company, and during this time he was selected for Late Entry commission on 14 April 14. After being promoted to Captain he was posted to IBS as a Mortar Platoon Commander.
His appointments have included Second-in-Command A (Delhi) Company in 1 RGR, SO3 Plans and Queen’s Gurkha Orderly Officer at HQ Brigade of Gurkhas, 2IC Gurkha Company and SO3 Future Ops CSS in 20 AABCT and Quartermaster The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles. He has recently been appointed as the Gurkha Major GM f British Gurkhas Nepal.
