The 80th anniversary commemoration of the Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) was observed at Headquarters British Gurkhas Nepal on 8 May 2025. The VE Day signifies the end of the six years of brutal warfare in the European theatre which came with the Allies formally accepting the Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender in World War II.
His Excellency British Ambassador Mr Rob Fenn, Brigadier General Bobby Chand (Nepali Army), Colonel Dan Rex MVO (Commander BGN), Major (Retired) Balkrishna Rana MBE (Chairman Regimental Association Nepal (RAN)) and Rifleman (Retired) Chandrabahadur Sunuwar (World War II Gurkha veteran), were among those who laid the wreaths of tribute at the Gurkha Monument.
The event saw Gurkha veterans including RAN office bearers and members, BGN’s military and civilian staff and families, and staff from the British Embassy Kathmandu observe a moment of silence. A moment of silence was also observed by staff and families in BGN Pokhara and BGN Dharan. Gurkha veterans including RAN office bearers, Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) JP Cross OBE, military and civilian officers and staff of BGN, Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT) and Kadoorie Agricultural Aid Association (KAAA), paid their respects at the parade in Pokhara.
