Major Krishna Loksam MVO – Gurkha Major, The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles

Major Krishna Loksam MVO enlisted into the Brigade of Gurkhas in January 1994. Following completion of Basic Combat Infantry Training in Hong Kong, he was posted to The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles (2 RGR) in Brunei. Commissioned in June 2015, he has completed more than three decades of distinguished service, progressing from Rifleman to Gurkha Major through a career characterised by operational excellence, exceptional leadership and dedicated service to the Brigade of Gurkhas.

In 2000, he was attached to the 1st Battalion, The Royal Irish Regiment as part of a Gurkha Reinforcement Company, serving until promotion to Senior Non-Commissioned Officer. Following promotion to Sergeant, he returned to 2 RGR as a Rifle Company Platoon Sergeant and deployed on Operation (Op) FINGAL in Kabul and Op TARROCK in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan. Promoted to Colour Sergeant in 2006, he commanded the Battalion Reconnaissance Platoon before taking up the appointment of Company Quartermaster Sergeant, B Company, deploying subsequently on Op HERRICK 9. On completion of the tour, he was selected as an instructor with the Brigade Training Team, responsible for developing future Gurkha leaders and soldiers, before returning to 2 RGR as Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant. Promoted to Warrant Officer Class One in 2014, he served as Regimental Sergeant Major before being commissioned later that year and appointed as Motor Transport Officer, 2 RGR. He subsequently deployed on Op HERRICK 17 as Quartermaster in support of coalition operations in Afghanistan.

Major Krishna’s operational service includes Op LANGAR (East Timor), Op FINGAL, Op TARROCK, Op HERRICK 9 and 17, Op COMET (Commonwealth Games, Glasgow), Op PITCHPOLE (United Kingdom) and Op TORAL 3 (Afghanistan). Following his final operational deployment, he was appointed Second-in-Command, Support Company, 2 RGR in July 2017 before serving as Quartermaster Technical.

In June 2021, he was selected for the prestigious appointment of The Queen’s Gurkha Orderly Officer, serving the Royal Household and representing the Brigade of Gurkhas at the highest level. In July 2022, he assumed command of Headquarters Company, The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles, before being appointed Quartermaster, British Gurkhas Nepal in 2024. In 2026, he was appointed Gurkha Major, 2 RGR, serving as the Commanding Officer’s principal adviser on Gurkha affairs, culture, welfare, tradition and values, while safeguarding the Battalion’s Gurkha identity and ethos.
