In Shorncliffe, Kent on the 22nd of January 2024, the newly trained Gurkhas who completed their training in Catterick at the end of 2023, took to the parade square for The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles Attestation Parade. The new Gurkhas had to march up in small groups to present themselves to The Queen’s Truncheon.
The new Gurkhas have been undertaking an induction course before this parade, and are now ready to take up their positions as Riflemen in the Battalion.
The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas were also on parade, to welcome their new musicians at the same parade. The Musicians have up to a 3-year training programme, so that they can establish themselves as credible musicians in the band. The Band practice facilities and offices are also located in Shorncliffe.
