The Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment (QOGLR) marked its 66th Regimental Birthday the 29th of June 2024, in Aldershot. The event, attended by over 1,000 people, including ex-service personnel, families, and distinguished guests, was a spectacular celebration of tradition, camaraderie, and military excellence.

The day commenced with the Kasam Khane Parade for Intake 23 and the historic reformation of 31 Squadron QOGLR. This event was delivered under the expert guidance of Captain Harkaman Tawa, Second in Command of 1 Squadron, whose leadership ensured that the day unfolded seamlessly, reflecting the regiment’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

The highlight of the morning was the Kasam Khane Parade for Intake 23, which saw new personnel from Recruit Intake 23 take their oath of allegiance, pledging their loyalty and dedication to the Regiment and The Crown. The Colonel of the Regiment, Brigadier P S Reehal MBE, in his role as Reviewing Officer, inspected the parade with a keen eye. His presence was a source of inspiration for these new members of the Regiment. In his speech he emphasized the importance of duty, honour, and the proud legacy of the QOGLR. He reminded them of the sacrifices made by their predecessors and the responsibilities that come with wearing the Regiment’s cap badge. During this parade, the Pipes and Drums performed brilliantly to support the parade.

The main celebrations took place in Gale Barracks in the afternoon, commencing with a delicious Bada Khana, well-prepared by the renowned chefs. The final event of the Colonel of the Khukuri Challenge, featuring a Tug of War competition also took place. Although 28 Squadron won this particular event, the overall winner of the competition was 94 Squadron, retaining the Colonel of the Khukuri Challenge trophy.

Another significant moment was the presentation of the Commander’s Sword, an award recognizing the Squadron that has demonstrated outstanding performance in sporting competitions. This day provided the perfect occasion to formally present the Sword to 1 Squadron, as the overall winners. Entertainment included a Khukuri Dance and a cheque presentation by the QOGLR ladies to the Director of the Gurkha Museum. The Communications Troop also completed a 66km charity run to mark the 66th birthday of the Regiment.
