Gurkha Wing (Mandalay) (GWM) based in Infantry Battle School (IBS), Brecon participated in the UK Midlands Inter-Unit Volleyball competition in November 2024. The competition was held at Beacon Barracks, Stafford.
A total of ten service personnel from IBS formed a team which was supervised by Sergeant Pasang Gurung, with Lance Corporal Man Mohan Ale as team Captain. The team conducted additional training session during the weekends leading up to the event, so they would be best prepared for the competition.
The main purpose of the competition was to select four teams for the Army Volleyball Championship in January 2025. A total of seven strong teams participated in the competition in Stafford which included both major and minor units. There were awards for the Major and Minor unit champions. The competition started as a league system taking the top four forward to the semi-finals and the final two for the final. The IBS team was able to secure the Minor unit Champion award and qualify for the Army Volleyball Championship, a great achievement for the team.
