On the evening of the 17th of January, The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas and the Pipes and Drums from The Second Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles performed a Sounding Retreat at the Gurkha Welfare Trust event at the House of Lords. Taking the salute was the Speaker of the House of Commons, Chief of General Staff (British Army) and the Rt Hon the Lord Lancaster of Kimbolton, TD PC.

The Band and Pipes and Drums performed an impeccable display of music and military precision marching display, in front of the guests of the Gurkha Welfare Trust. The event was the idea of Lord Lancaster who is also a Brigadier and the Deputy Colonel Commandant Brigade of Gurkhas and was then organised by the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

A number of personnel from across the Brigade of Gurkhas were also in attendance including our Colonel Commandant Lieutenant General Richard Wardlaw OBE who is also Chairman of the Gurkha Welfare Trust. The event was followed by drinks and dinner in the House of Lords for the invited guests.

The Gurkha Welfare Trust ensure that Gurkha veterans, their widows and their wider communities are able to live with dignity. They achieve this primarily through the provision of financial, medical and community aid in Nepal. They operate through 21 Area Welfare Centres spread across traditional Gurkha recruiting areas.

In the UK, in conjunction with other service charities and government bodies and offer advice and support to help the thousands of retired Gurkhas and their families who choose to settle here.
