Gurkha Badminton Brings Sport and Community Together in Aldershot
The Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre hosted two days of spirited competition on 29–30 November, as Brigade of Gurkhas (BG) personnel came together for the Brigade Badminton Championship, held alongside a separate ladies’ competition.
The event was coordinated by Captain Joseph Subba (Queen’s Gurkha Engineers), Mrs Jyoti Gurung (Headquarters Brigade of Gurkhas (HQBG)) and Corporal (Cpl) Tanchho Angdembe (HQBG), whose efforts ensured the smooth delivery of a successful championship enjoyed by all involved. Now in its second year, it showcased an impressive standard of play across both the men’s and ladies’ competitions, celebrating badminton talent within the Brigade.
Ladies Competition sponsored by the GBA
The Gurkhas Brigade Association (GBA) supported this year’s ladies’ competition by sponsoring T-shirts and prizes. The GBA contribution helped make the competition a special part of the event.
Connect and Celebrate Sporting Talent
Beyond the contest to find the Brigade’s best badminton players for 2026, the event offered an opportunity to connect and celebrate talent. For BG personnel and the ladies taking part, it brought sporting challenge and community spirit together over two days on court.
