The course was structured so that not only the circumstance of drill was taught, but also the history of the Brigade of Gurkhas. The students from across the Brigade of Gurkhas polished and shined their boots and respective part of their uniforms to the highest standard achievable. We had the opportunity to learn how to slow march, sword drill and put it all into practice during the Squad Competition.

A total of 17 soldiers from across the Brigade of Gurkhas were on this course. They were marked on personal and professional excellency on the various aspects of the course. This included personal drill, knowledge of Brigade history, conducting lessons and leadership skills.

On the completion of the course, Lance Corpporal Pawan Thapa (Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment) was awarded top student. LCpl Diwash Rai (The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles) was awarded overall second. They were both trusted with the role of Parade Commander and Drill Sergeant Major respectively on the Pass Out Parade of the course.

The course was an excellent opportunity for future leaders within the Brigade to expose themselves to situations outside of their comfort zone and to test their leadership ability, not only in drill, but also wider aspects of their soldiering development.
