Captain Lal Kaji Gurung (QOGLR) - Kings Gurkha Orderly Officer

Captain Lal Kaji Gurung (Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment (QOGLR)), was born and raised in Rumjatar, east Nepal. He studied English literature, Bachelor of Arts at Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. He enlisted in the Brigade of Gurkhas in January 2001, completing his basic training at Gurkha Company, Infantry Training Centre Catterick, before joining the QOGLR.

His early military career included operational deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as a tour of the Falkland Islands in 2009. He later served as a Sergeant Instructor at the Defence Logistics School, Deepcut, where he also completed a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Logistics Management. In 2014, he was appointed Operations Senior Non-Commissioned Officer at 10 QOGLR. After being promoted to Staff Sergeant in 2015, he became Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant of 1 Squadron.

Promoted to Warrant Officer Class Two in 2018, Captain Gurung served as Squadron Technical Warrant Officer of 1 Squadron and undertook Squadron Sergeant Major duties during QOGLR’s Queen’s Guard public duties commitment in 2019. Later that year, he commissioned into QOGLR and was posted to 4 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps as a Troop Commander. During this period, he supported several Operation RESCRIPT commitments, including deployment with the Welsh Ambulance Services Trust as an Operations Officer.

In 2022, he joined the Gurkha Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) Support Battalion as Second in Command of 170 Squadron, supporting NATO commitments with Headquarters ARRC. In September 2024, he deployed on Operation INTERFLEX as SO3 G4. Upon return, he served as Officer Commanding 170 Squadron as an Acting Major until June 2026. Captain Gurung has been assigned as the Regimental Career Management Officer (RCMO) of 10 QOGLR since June 2026, and in July 2026 additionally assumed the appointment of King’s Gurkha Orderly Officer.
