Commonwealth Day Charity Challenge

To mark the 49th Commonwealth Day, 94 Squadron, 9 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps, organised a two‑day charity challenge in support of the Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA). The event aimed to raise awareness, celebrate the Regiment’s diverse Commonwealth heritage, and reinforce unity through a demanding endurance‑based team effort.
Led by Corporal Subash Gurung, with Private Sanjeev Thapa Magar providing key support and serving as team captain throughout, the challenge brought together personnel from across the Regiment in a strong display of determination and camaraderie.
Day One focused on completing 56km, representing the 56 Commonwealth nations, using skier and cycling fitness machines. Day Two shifted to a 49km effort to mark the 49th Commonwealth Day, combining rowing machine distances with running routes around the base.

Thanks to exceptional commitment from across the Regiment, the team far surpassed their goals, achieving 111.2km on day one and 110km on day two. The activity concluded with a well‑supported charity momo lunch, bringing the Regimental family together in celebration.
Reflecting on the achievement, Corporal Subash Gurung said: “This event wasn’t just about distance, it was about unity, resilience, and supporting our wider Armed Forces family. I’m proud to have been part of it.”
The initiative successfully strengthened awareness of the Commonwealth across the Regiment and reinforced the message that no member of the Armed Forces community should face life’s challenges alone. In total, the event raised £1,052.92 for SSAFA.
