249 Gurkha Signal Squadron participated in Exercise KIWI REFRESH 23. This involved the removal of weeds and re-chalking of the Bulford Kiwi monument on Beacon Hill, a historic site constructed by the New Zealand Forces in 1919. It is a great honor for the Squadron to be entrusted with the responsibility of preserving such a significant monument on behalf of the Regiment.
Situated in the scenic Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England, the Bulford Kiwi is a large chalk carving depicting the Kiwi bird, serving as a poignant symbol of remembrance for the sacrifices made by New Zealand soldiers in both World War One and Two. Additionally, it stands as a testament to the enduring friendship between New Zealand and the United Kingdom, symbolizing the strong bond formed through shared history and mutual respect.
