Gurkha Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) Support Battalion (Sp Bn) volleyball team, had an exceptionally successful year, winning the Royal Logistics Corps (RLC) Inter-Unit Volleyball Championship 2024. They achieved this remarkable feat by defeating the five-time champions, their sister unit, the Queen’s Own Logistic Regiment (QOGLR) at the Aldershot Garrison Sport Centre.
The RLC Inter Unit Championship featured 19 major, minor, mixed, and female teams from across the Corps. The teams were divided into two pools for the league stage, with the winners and runners-up from each pool advancing to the semi-finals. Emerging victorious from Pool A, the Gurkha ARRC Support Battalion faced off against the team from 13 Assault Support Regiment in the semi-finals. The Gurkha ARRC Support Battalion team secured a decisive victory in straight sets, propelling them into the final against QOGLR.
The final match, played as a best of five sets, showcased the team’s unwavering determination. Despite losing the first set, the Gurkha ARRC Sp Bn team mounted an historic comeback, winning the second, fourth, and fifth sets. This victory marked their first-ever championship win in the Battalion’s history. Adding to their triumph, Private Roshan Chantal was selected as the best RLC player, a moment of immense pride for the entire Battalion. The organizers and officials praised the professionalism and competitiveness of all players involved.
The team had a stellar year, winning not only the RLC Inter-Unit Volleyball Championship, but also the ARRC Social Volleyball Competition and the Colonel of The Regiment’s Khukuri Challenge Volleyball Competition.
