GSPS 5 Peaks Challenge Marks 15th Anniversary

To commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the Gurkha Staff and Personnel Support (GSPS), a determined team undertook the formidable GSPS 5 Peaks Challenge. This was a demanding test of endurance, resilience, and regimental spirit. Led by Major Anil Gurung, Commander GSPS, and planned by Sergeant Yojan Gurung, the expedition brought together 18 GSPS personnel, from Private to Major, to summit the highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales.

In honour of the anniversary, each participant carried a 15kg bergen, symbolising the commitment, professionalism and fighting spirit that define the GSPS Pariwar. The challenge began with the ascent of Glamaig on the Isle of Skye, a mountain forever linked to the legendary feat of Havildar Harkabir Thapa in 1899. The team then pressed on to Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowdon, and finally Pen y Fan, overcoming snow, fog, fatigue and demanding terrain across five consecutive days.

The success of the expedition was built on exceptional teamwork and leadership. Sergeant Yojan Gurung and Lance Corporal (LCpl) Prashish Gurung provided outstanding administrative support throughout, ensuring the team remained fed, transported and motivated despite the relentless pace. An impressive 16 GSPS personnel completed all five peaks, demonstrating remarkable determination and perseverance. LCpl Prashish Gurung, LCpl Abijal Gurung, Private (Pte) Bibek Tamang and Pte Dinesh Sundauli were awarded the Colonel GSPS Coin for their exemplary performance.

Beyond the physical achievement, the challenge raised £6,500 in support of AGC HQ and the Gurkha Museum restoration initiative, Project KAIDA. The team extends sincere thanks to all donors whose generosity made this endeavour possible.

The GSPS 5 Peaks Challenge 2026 stands as a proud tribute to the organisation’s 15th Anniversary. It showcased endurance, leadership, teamwork and an unwavering determination to overcome adversity. It is a powerful reminder that, united as one Pariwar, no challenge is insurmountable.
