The Army Inter Unit Orienteering Championships 2026 were held from 20–21 May at Chawton Woods, Alton, testing soldiers’ navigation, terrain awareness and aerobic fitness. The open competition allowed Army units and Headquarters to enter teams of three or four, depending on class.
Day one used a Spanish Score format, with each team member running individually to visit all controls as quickly as possible; team results were based on cumulative time. Day two was a Harris Relay, with all runners starting together on identical maps. Teams were required to visit all ‘spine’ controls (by every runner) and all ‘other’ controls (by at least one runner). Final times were taken from the last finisher, multiplied by four. Overall standings were decided by the lowest combined time across both days.
