Nepalese New Year with Gurkha Training Company
The New Year represents a time for perseverance, reflection, and renewal, and unites us as a family and team. Gurkha Training Company (GTC) welcomed the Nepalese New Year with pride, culture, and togetherness. Despite being far from home, the celebration brought the Gurkha Training Company family closer, reminding us of who we are and what we stand for.
After enduring rigorous training since enlisting in the British Army, I finally had the opportunity to meet all my numberi. Dressed in Daura Suruwal and Dhaka Topi, we gathered on 18 April 2026 for an evening filled with tradition, laughter, and brotherhood. We congratulated the promoted Section Commanders, welcomed new ones, and enjoyed an exciting raffle, where I was lucky enough to win a laptop. The food, music, drama, and vibrant cultural dances made us forget the intensity of training, even if just for a moment.
Events like this provide an opportunity for us to learn our Kaida, strengthen our morale, preserve our heritage, and reinforce the bond between numberi and the seniors. This event provided a much-needed opportunity to rejuvenate both mind and body, preparing us for the challenges ahead. As we continue our demanding nine‑month journey, the New Year reminds us of one truth: standards will rise, and so must we.
