The Intelligence Cell team from The Second Battali

The Intelligence Cell team from The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles (2 RGR) deployed on Exercise EXPEDITIOUS KHUKURI, 27th – 29th of November 22024. The Exercise was held at 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team, Very High Readiness Military Intelligence Company in Colchester, Essex.⁠

The aim of the exercise was to deliver Operational Intelligence (J2) tailored serials to facilitate training for the 2 RGR Int Cell, develop team cohesion, and build rapport between the Battlegroup and Brigade J2 departments.⁠

The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles (1 RG

The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles (1 RGR) and The Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) co-hosted the Jungle Warfare Skills Meet (JWSM). The JWSM 2024 built on the 2023 pilot event, with this year’s iteration expanding the competition to a wider audience, involving both regional and international partner teams. JWSM 2024 patrols came from the UK, Brunei, Australia, USA, Malaysia, and Singapore. ⁠

Designed to test section-strength patrols in the Close Country Tropical Environment of Brunei. Following a period of joint training and acclimatisation run by 1 RGR, Third Battalion, RBLF and the Institute of Naval Medicine, the patrols spent 72 hours completing a series of stands across 15km of primary and secondary jungle. They were tasked to find and conduct reconnaissance tasks against an organised crime group. ⁠

The event took place concurrently to the Regional Jungle Warfare Symposium, which is the UK-Brunei defence conceptual study week with ASEAN participation. On the 26th of November teams received awards from His Royal Highness, The Crown Prince of Brunei, Chief of Staff RBLF and Deputy Commander (RES) 1(UK) Division. Of the 16 teams that participated, eight received gold, five received silver, three received bronze medals.⁠

Major General Misri Chand award 2024 has been awarded to Corporal Madhu Ghimire from The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles, who is currently serving at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS). He demonstrated great enterprise, and delivered an activity requiring innovation, dare and purpose that it is deemed by the Commandant RMAS to have met the standards shown through the life of Major General Dewan Misri Chand.⁠

Under the direction of Major Sanjip Rai MVO (Officer Commanding Gurkha Company (Sittang)), Lance Corporal Mahendra organised a Dismounted Close Combat Trainer range for families to attend and take part. The event was a big success, and all those who took part thoroughly enjoyed both the activities, which was followed by a lunch with momos and Selroti. Medals were presented to the winner and runners up. ⁠

Private Saroj Tamang, a member of the Gurkha Staff

Private Saroj Tamang, a member of the Gurkha Staff and Personnel Support (GSPS), is currently assigned to the 69 Gurkha Field Squadron. He had the honour of being the first GSPS member to serve as part of The King’s Guard at both Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. The unit has been deployed to assist the Public Duties Reinforcement Company in London.⁠
