The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles (2 RGR) proudly demonstrated their warrior spirit by securing a resounding victory at this year’s PARAS’10 event in Catterick. Competing against 562 participants and 53 teams, 2 RGR achieved first place in both the team tab and team run categories, underscoring the renowned strength and discipline of Gurkha soldiers.

A careful coordinated selection process, led by Staff Sergeant Sanju Kerung, which identified top performers from across the Battalion to form the competition teams. The preparation consisted of three progressive training phases, foundation, resilience, and specific. A critical component of the regimen was mental resilience training, which played a pivotal role in preparing runners mentally for the intense demands of the competition. While the primary objective was to win, as Team Officer-in-Charge, my directive emphasized focusing on the “process of winning.” Throughout the training, we meticulously tracked our timing, closely monitored diet and supplementation, and addressed every detail to ensure a well-coordinated, efficient approach.

On event day, a motivating voice message from Commanding Officer 2 RGR provided an inspiring boost to the team’s morale. This support proved vital, as 2 RGR ultimately claimed the winning title for the second consecutive year. The dedication and effort displayed by the runners went beyond expectations – truly demonstrating best of the best.
