1 Squadron, Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment, deployed to Sennelager, Germany, to take part in Exercise DRAGONFLY, a key activity in the Regiment’s growing small Uncrewed Aerial Systems (sUAS) programme. The exercise focused on qualifying additional personnel as sUAS operators, expanding the Regiment’s technical depth and operational flexibility.

Alongside operator training, the squadron conducted experimentation on emerging sUAS capabilities, assessing how new systems and software can enhance reconnaissance, situational awareness, and logistic support. This phase enabled soldiers to test equipment in realistic conditions and contribute to the ongoing development of best practice across Defence.

A central feature of the deployment was a partnership activity with the Bundeswehr, where both forces shared experience, compared approaches to sUAS innovation, and explored opportunities for interoperability. This collaboration has laid the groundwork for further joint training between the UK and Germany, strengthening professional relationships and supporting future cooperation.
