Corporal Rajan Limbu (Gurkha Staff and Personnel Support (GSPS)) from Gurkha Company (Sittang), Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, now serving with The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles was awarded the Fishmongers’ Gold Medal for 2022 by the court members for the Fishmongers’ Livery Company during their court meeting.

The award ceremony took place on Thursday the 9th of March 2023 at the Livery Hall, Fishmongers’ Hall in London. This award is presented to an officer or a soldier who has contributed significantly to enhance the tradition, kaida and reputation of the Brigade of Gurkhas with outstanding achievement, a single act of high significance or remarkable individual endeavour.

The Fishmongers’ Company is one of the oldest, most ancient, and respected Livery companies of the City of London, one of the ‘Great Twelve’, incorporated by Royal Charter by Edward I in 1272 AD with a rich history that expanded over the centuries. It is located on the banks of the River Thames, situated by London Bridge, as it has continuously for the last 750 years.

The event commenced with a guided tour of the hall followed by pre-lunch drinks, medal presentations and lunch with the court members. The Gold medals were presented by the Prime Warden, Charles Spicer, of the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers to the outstanding performers from various Arms and Services affiliated with the Fishmongers’ Company, the Brigade of Gurkhas, the Parachute Regiment, the Royal Navy, and the Royal Air Force. The Prime Warden presented five gold medals to this year’s medal recipients in the court drawing room where the famous 1955 portrait of late Queen Elizabeth II portraited by the Italian portrait painter, Pietro Annigoni has been displayed since 1955.

Corporal Rajan Limbu said, ‘’I am humbled to have received the gold medal award from a very prestigious company with a rich history and am privileged to meet the court members of the company representing the Brigade of Gurkhas. I am very grateful to my chain of command and would like to express my sincere gratitude for the recognition.”

Corporal Rajan Limbu Limbu has been an epitome of a remarkable Junior Non-Commissioned Officer (JNCO) with the Sandhurst Support Unit, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS). Besides his already challenging primary role, he took on additional challenges without lacking his first-rate G1 support to the company. So much he has achieved this year that it is just astonishing to even fathom his accomplishments.

Corporal Rajan Limbu raised substantial sum of money, approx. £5500 for a noble charity towards Oyam Memorial Hall Project on his own initiative for which he received General Officer Commanding coin. He represented RMAS in Army Operation Shooting Competition 2022 helping the team to secure an outstanding result. He represented RMAS SPS detachment in Adjutant General Corps Triple Crown Challenge completing 10 miles march and shoot competition. He took part in a series of events leading to Trail Walker 2022 (TW22) – Fleet half marathon, Salisbury full marathon and eventually TW22, all carrying a stretcher with mannequin; a record in the history of TW or any of its kind. Within two weeks of TW22, he represented GSPS in Exercise CAMBRIAN PATROL 22 (Ex CP22) in their first ever endeavour and achieved an outstanding Gold award which is a remarkable feat in the history of GSPS. Persistently within two weeks of Ex CP22, he again took part in Triathlon activities with SSU Regimental Administrative Office Detachment completing 973 miles of running, rowing, and biking in a day for a charity to raise fund for Sandhurst Nursery.

Corporal Rajan Limbu’s accomplishments are testament to his character. It is apparent what he has accomplished is truly remarkable, and perhaps beyond anyone’s comprehension. He has displayed elite perseverance and has set the bar far too high. He has demonstrated that no endeavour is impossible with relentless work ethic, generosity, selfless commitment, right set of mindset and discipline. A catalyst JNCO, his constant stride in pursuit of excellence has been truly inspirational to many. He is unfazed and continues to go above and beyond.

A remarkable individual who has accomplished what most people can only imagine. A versatile JNCO, he has displayed a character that most will look up to. This individual is worthy of every accolade; his accomplishments set example and as such must get proper recognition.
